Key idea

Use endpoints, directions and angle relationships to distinguish geometric objects.

Sample problems

  1. Draw and label a point A, a line through A and B, a ray starting at A through C, and segment BC. Show endpoints and arrows.
  2. Explain how ray AB differs from ray BA. Draw a separate labeled example of each.
  3. Draw one pair of parallel lines and one pair of perpendicular lines. Add arrows and a right-angle mark where appropriate.
  4. Draw angle BAC. Circle its vertex and underline the two ray names.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • A student gives ray AC two arrows, accidentally drawing a line instead of a ray.
  • Name the quantities and units before choosing an operation.
  • A claim needs an explanation or a counterexample, not just an answer.

The answer key explains each one, so you can tell what a wrong answer means.

How to use this set

  1. Teach with the slides (about 15 minutes): a warm-up, the big ideas, a “spot the slip” challenge, Mr DJ’s worked example, and a pick-your-pepper round on whiteboards. Or watch the video together.
  2. Practice with the worksheet. Everyone does Mild and Medium, then climbs to Spicy and Extra Spicy.
  3. Check understanding with the exit ticket, and send the homework home.
  4. Mark with the answer key — each answer shows the steps and the most likely mistake. The slides’ teacher notes are in the key too.
