Key idea

Add nonoverlapping adjacent turns; subtract known parts from a labeled whole angle.

Sample problems

  1. A 90° angle is split into two NONOVERLAPPING adjacent angles. One is 35°. Draw and find the other.
  2. A 180° angle is split into two NONOVERLAPPING adjacent angles. One is 65°. Draw and find the other.
  3. A 120° angle is split into two NONOVERLAPPING adjacent angles. One is 45°. Draw and find the other.
  4. Two adjacent angles measure 25° and 40°. Find the combined angle; draw a labeled sketch.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • A student writes 90 + 35 instead of finding the missing part inside the fixed 90° whole.
  • Name the quantities and units before choosing an operation.
  • A claim needs an explanation or a counterexample, not just an answer.

The answer key explains each one, so you can tell what a wrong answer means.

How to use this set

  1. Teach with the slides (about 15 minutes): a warm-up, the big ideas, a “spot the slip” challenge, Mr DJ’s worked example, and a pick-your-pepper round on whiteboards. Or watch the video together.
  2. Practice with the worksheet. Everyone does Mild and Medium, then climbs to Spicy and Extra Spicy.
  3. Check understanding with the exit ticket, and send the homework home.
  4. Mark with the answer key — each answer shows the steps and the most likely mistake. The slides’ teacher notes are in the key too.
