Key idea

Angle measures the turn between rays. Align the center and baseline, then choose the correct zero scale.

Sample problems

  1. Use a protractor to construct a 60° angle. Label its vertex, rays and smaller angle. Classify it.
  2. Use a protractor to construct a 90° angle. Label its vertex, rays and smaller angle. Classify it.
  3. Use a protractor to construct a 120° angle. Label its vertex, rays and smaller angle. Classify it.
  4. A ray begins at the RIGHT-hand zero. The other ray crosses marks 40° and 140°. Which reading is correct? Explain.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • A student uses the opposite zero scale and labels an acute 60° angle as 120°.
  • Name the quantities and units before choosing an operation.
  • A claim needs an explanation or a counterexample, not just an answer.

The answer key explains each one, so you can tell what a wrong answer means.

How to use this set

  1. Teach with the slides (about 15 minutes): a warm-up, the big ideas, a “spot the slip” challenge, Mr DJ’s worked example, and a pick-your-pepper round on whiteboards. Or watch the video together.
  2. Practice with the worksheet. Everyone does Mild and Medium, then climbs to Spicy and Extra Spicy.
  3. Check understanding with the exit ticket, and send the homework home.
  4. Mark with the answer key — each answer shows the steps and the most likely mistake. The slides’ teacher notes are in the key too.
