Key idea
2072 ÷ 7: 7 into 20 = 2 (14, r6); bring down 7 → 67 ÷ 7 = 9 (63, r4); bring down 2 → 42 ÷ 7 = 6. Answer 296. Keep every digit lined up in its own column.
Sample problems
- Compute 728 ÷ 8.
- Compute 4095 ÷ 9.
- Compute 6032 ÷ 16.
- Compute 8120 ÷ 28.
Common mistakes to watch for
- Place-value slip (e.g. 17 or 1017) from misaligning the digits of the quotient.
- Answered 42 — dropped the final zero because ‘0 ÷ 12 is nothing.’ A zero still holds its place in the quotient.
- Wrote 901 — inserted a zero that doesn’t belong, or started dividing into 12 and lost a place.
The answer key explains each one, so you can tell what a wrong answer means.
How to use this set
- Teach with the slides (about 15 minutes), or watch the video together.
- Practice with the worksheet. Questions climb from fluency to application to reasoning.
- Check understanding with the exit ticket, and send the homework home.
- Mark with the answer key — each answer shows the steps and the most likely mistake.
