Watch: Long Division With Decimals Step by Step
Key idea
Multiply: 3.02 × 1.5 → 302 × 15 = 4530; three decimal places → 4.53. Divide: 18.9 ÷ 3.5 → shift both one place → 189 ÷ 35 = 5.4.
Sample problems
- Compute 0.3 × 0.7.
- Compute 2.4 × 0.5.
- Compute 12.6 × 3.
- Compute 4.05 × 2.6.
Common mistakes to watch for
- Answered 2.4 (counted only one place) or 0.024 (counted three). Count the places in BOTH factors and add.
- Placed the point by lining up the factors instead of counting places → 45.5 or 0.455.
- Dropped the decimal point entirely → 24.
The answer key explains each one, so you can tell what a wrong answer means.
How to use this set
- Teach with the slides (about 15 minutes), or watch the video together.
- Practice with the worksheet. Questions climb from fluency to application to reasoning.
- Check understanding with the exit ticket, and send the homework home.
- Mark with the answer key — each answer shows the steps and the most likely mistake.
