Watch: Angles and Parallel Lines Explained Step by Step
Key idea
Complementary → sum 90°. Supplementary → sum 180°. Vertical → equal. Angles on a straight line → sum 180°. Write the equation from the RELATIONSHIP, never from how the diagram looks.
Sample problems
- Find the complement of 20°.
- Find the supplement of 20°.
- Find the complement of 45°. What is special about this angle?
- Find the supplement of 90°. What does this tell you about a right angle?
Common mistakes to watch for
- Answered 145° by using 180. Complementary is the smaller pair — think of the C in Corner, a right angle.
- Answered 55° by using 90. The two words are easy to swap, and the totals are what distinguish them.
- Made the vertical angle 118°. Vertical angles are equal; it is the ADJACENT angles that are supplementary.
The answer key explains each one, so you can tell what a wrong answer means.
How to use this set
- Teach with the slides (about 15 minutes), or watch the video together.
- Practice with the worksheet. Questions climb from fluency to application to reasoning.
- Check understanding with the exit ticket, and send the homework home.
- Mark with the answer key — each answer shows the steps and the most likely mistake.
