C = 2πr from a radius. C = πd from a diameter. One formula in two costumes, since d = 2r. Reading backwards: if C = kπ, then the diameter is k and the radius is k ÷ 2.
Sample problems
- Find the circumference of a circle with radius 7 cm.
- Find the circumference of a circle with diameter 7 cm.
- Your answers to 1 and 2 differ. Explain why, given that both mention 7.
- Find the circumference of a circle with diameter 14 cm. Compare it with question 1.
Common mistakes to watch for
- Used C = πr and answered 5π, forgetting the 2.
- Answered 20π by substituting the diameter into the radius formula. Always name which measurement you were given before choosing the formula.
- Answered 3π by using C = πr.
The answer key explains each one, so you can tell what a wrong answer means.
How to use this set
- Teach with the slides (about 15 minutes), or watch the video together.
- Practice with the worksheet. Questions climb from fluency to application to reasoning.
- Check understanding with the exit ticket, and send the homework home.
- Mark with the answer key — each answer shows the steps and the most likely mistake.
